About Us

Amy Hunkeler

Dr. Amy Hunkeler is a Kansas City native and the third generation to work in the eye care field. She graduated from Harvard College and Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She was accepted to a one-year internship at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana and a two-year residency in Veterinary Ophthalmology at Animal Eye Associates of Chicago. After completing the challenging programs and returning to live in Kansas City, she opened Hunkeler Animal Eye Clinic inside Animal Emergency and Referral Hospital of Lee’s Summit. Twice monthly, Dr. Hunkeler is available at Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital to see referred patients from veterinarians in Springfield, the Ozarks and north to central Arkansas.

The practice continues to grow and Dr. Hunkeler is available to see scheduled appointments and ocular emergencies weekdays. She can even return to the hospital for after-hours emergencies.  She is board certified in Veterinary Ophthalmology (Diplomate AVCO), licensed to practice in Kanss, Missouri and Illinois and a member of the AVMA, KVMA and KCVMA. She volunteers her time as a board member of Wayside Waifs, the Morris Animal Foundation, the KCVMA and the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also an ambassador for the KC Animal Health Corridor, a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a volunteer for BOTAR. Dr. Hunkeler looks forward to meeting you and sharing her passion for ophthalmology.
